Last Friday, our staff traveled south to Olympia for the national Housing Advocacy Day. Along with many other like minded individuals focused on the challenges faced by non-profits and service providers, we descended upon the capitol to make our voices heard in support for housing initiatives and programming in Washington State.
Affordable housing and related wrap around services are under threat from funding cuts being proposed for HUD and in general on a national scale. We are very thankful that our state's representatives (like Maria Cantwell, who joined us recently at our Madrona Highlands housing community opening day) are vocal in their support of affordable housing, but there are others at our nations government that do not share our vision and agree on the importance of providing housing and support services to those trying to escape the cycle of being unhoused.
Thank you to everyone that came out and supported not just us, but housing initiatives in general. The road ahead is rocky, but by coming together as a larger community we can continue working toward a brighter future for those in our state that need some hope the most.
